COMPETITION PROPER
AUDIENCE AND CONTESTANTS
1. Registration starts at 12:30. Contest proper starts at 2:00pm, whether teams are complete or not.
2. While contestants are answering questions, audience must not use flash photography or engage in any distracting noise or movements. Violators will be sent out of the room.
3. Contestants are not allowed to use calculators and bring other devices with them, including cellphones.
4. Only writing materials and pens provided by the organizers will be allowed.
SCORING
5. The entire competition will consist of three (3) rounds with ten (10) questions for each round
Round | Type | Time Limit (mins) | Points for Correct Answer |
1 | Easy | 1 | 10 |
2 | Moderate | 2 | 20 |
3 | Difficult | 3 | 30 |
6. Each team shall have an assigned Assistant who will provide the scratch papers, questionnaire, and pens. Before each question, the Assistant shall distribute a copy of the question to each team member, face down.
7. With the question sheet still face down, the team members write their assigned 4-letter team name on the upper left hand of the sheet. This name should be what appears on the scoreboard.
8. The Quizmaster tells the team to flip to the question page and then reads the question once. The question will be projected on the screen for the entire allotted time.
9. Timing begins after the Quizmaster finishes reading the question.
10. A timer indicating the time left to answer the question is displayed on the screen.
11. When the time is up, the Assistant will receive only ONE answer sheet. The Assistant ensures that pens are up when the time is called. Anyone caught writing after the time limit shall forfeit the chance to answer the question.
12. Final answers must be legibly written at the back of each questionnaire. Each answer should have the corresponding units if required and should be encircled or boxed. Otherwise, the answer will not be considered.
13. No deductions will be given for unanswered questions or wrongly answered questions.
14. After each question, answers will be checked and team scores updated on the display.
15. The teams garnering the three highest cumulative scores from the three rounds will be declared winners.
PROTESTS
16. In the event of a protest from a team regarding a specific question, the following procedure will be followed:
(a) An active member of the team brings the protest to the judge/s in charge of handling protests before the Quiz Master starts to read the next question. The member is given a chance to discuss briefly with the team adviser, but only the member approaches the judge.
(b) The active member of the team will be replaced with another team member until the protest is cleared.
(c) The competition continues while the protest is being discussed between the representative of the protesting team and the assigned judge. For this reason, a team with only one active member cannot file a protest.
(d) Judge’s decision on a protest is final.
(e) Once reached, a decision on a protest is announced. Scores will be adjusted at the end of this announcement
SUBSTITUTIONS
17. A team may maintain or choose new team members from the list of 5 members submitted. Substitution is allowed only at the start or after the fifth question of any round, for as long as the Quiz master has not started reading the next question. The Adviser must notify the team Assistant when team change is desired.
TIE BREAKERS
18. At the end of the third round, a draw between any of the teams vying for the top three spots will be resolved by “sudden death” elimination, as follows:
(a) An extra question will be asked of the tied teams.
(b) Team giving the correct answers wins.
(c) Questions will be given until the tie is resolved.
IN CASE OF EXIGENCIES
19. Though unlikely but should circumstances demand it, organizers reserve the right to issue additional instructions or changes in the above rules to be announced before, or at the latest, by the quiz master during the contest proper.
