COMPETITION PROPER

AUDIENCE AND CONTESTANTS
1. Registration starts at 12:30. Contest proper starts at 2:00pm, whether teams are complete or not.
2. While contestants are answering questions, audience must not use flash photography or engage in any distracting noise or movements. Violators will be sent out of the room.
3. Contestants are not allowed to use calculators and bring other devices with them, including cellphones.
4. Only writing materials and pens provided by the organizers will be allowed.

SCORING
5. The entire competition will consist of three (3) rounds with ten (10) questions for each round.

Round  Type  Time Limit (mins)  Points for Correct Answer
 1 Easy 1  10
 2  Moderate  2  20
 3  Difficult  3  30

6. A timer indicating the time left to answer the question will be displayed on the screen.
7. Countdown begins after the quizmaster reads the question. The question will be projected on a screen for the entire allotted time.
8. Each team shall have an assigned assistant who shall provide the scratch papers, questionnaire, and pens. Assistant shall distribute a copy of the question to each team, face down. The team opens the question upon signal from the quiz master, at which point, the quiz master reads the question once. Timing starts after quiz master has finished reading the question.
9. Assistant shall collect answer sheet when time is up. Anyone caught writing after the time limit shall forfeit the chance to answer the question.
10. Final answers must be legibly written at the back of each questionnaire. Each answer should have the corresponding units if required and should be encircled or boxed. Otherwise, the answer will not be considered.
11. No deductions will be given for unanswered questions or wrongly answered questions.
11. After each question, answers will be checked and team scores updated on the display.
12. The teams garnering the three highest cumulative scores from the three rounds will be declared winners.

PROTESTS
13. In the event of a protest from a team regarding a specific question, the following procedure will be followed:
(a) An active member of the team brings the protest to the judge/s in charge of handling protests before the Quiz Master starts to read the next question. The member is given a chance to discuss briefly with the team adviser, but only the member approaches the judge.
(b) The active member of the team will be replaced with another team member from the bench until the protest has been cleared.
(c) The competition continues while the protest is being discussed between the representative of the protesting team and the assigned judge. For this reason, a team with only one active member cannot file a protest.
(d) Judge's decision on a protest is final.
(e) Once reached, a decision on a protest is announced before the Quiz master proceeds to the next question. Scores will be adjusted at the end of this announcement.

SUBSTITUTIONS
14. A team may maintain or choose new team members from the list of 5 submitted, only at the start or after the fifth question of any round, for as long as the Quiz master has not started reading the next question. The Adviser must notify the usher when team change is desired.

TIE BREAKERS
15. At the end of the third round, a draw between two or more teams will be resolved by “sudden death” elimination, as follows:
(a) An extra question will be asked of the tied teams.
(b) Team giving an incorrect answer is disqualified.
(c) In case both or all teams are disqualified, another question will be given.

IN CASE OF EXIGENCIES
16. Though unlikely but should circumstances demand it, organizers reserve the right to issue additional instructions or changes in the above rules to be announced before, or at the latest, by the quiz master during the contest proper.
