13th National Conference OR: Serving the Services Sector

With the theme OR: Serving the Services Sector , the conference seeks to bring together OR researchers, academicians and practitioners, whose collective work has sustained continuing OR contribution to decision-making.

The 2019 National Conference aims to provide a forum where:

• Practitioners will share their experiences on the problems, methodologies and outcomes of applying OR to solve real-world problems in the Philippines;
• Decision-makers will share new applications of OR in non-traditional areas;
• Researchers will present their findings dealing with the theoretical, computational, and application aspects of OR;
• OR workers will discuss pertinent academic-, theoretical- and application- oriented issues;
• Decision-makers could gain insights from experiences of others who have benefited from the use of OR in the public and private sectors; and
• Everyone will be given the opportunity to exchange ideas on how Analytics can help deal with issues that will contribute to Philippine economic growth.

Roberto de Vera

Dr. De Vera is Assistant Professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific, where he is Director of the School of Economics’ Regional Strategies Group. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh), his MS in Industrial Economics from UA&P and his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Philippines.

Vin Perez
Chief Operating Officer, Ninja Van Philippines
How Ninja Van Optimizes in the Age of eCommerce

Vin Perez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Philippines, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Prior to Ninja Van Philippines, he has acquired operations management experience as a Demand and Supply Planning Executive for Nestlé. His vision for Ninja Van Philippines is to connect every Filipino to the parcels and products they want one delightful delivery at a time. In his spare time, Vin plays basketball and is working to finish the latest role playing video game in his PlayStation.

Benjamin Santiago Jr. is Restaurant Systems Assistant Manager for Kitchen Industrial Design of Jollibee Foods Corporation. His extensive experience in the company since 2012 covers areas of capacity planning and business solutions. Among others, he led efforts to: achieve optimal profit through operational, financial, and statistical analysis; plan, coordinate and deploy masterplan capacity strategies of existing Jollibee stores; as well as optimize seat configuration in stores. He obtained his degree in Industrial Engineering from De la Salle University – Manila.

Xiaoyun (Jack) Xu
Professor, Ateneo de Manila UniversityCustomer Order Scheduling in Manufacturing and Service Industries

Dr. Xu is Professor at the Ateneo de Manila University. He has previously held various teaching positions at the Peking University in People’s Republic of China. He received both his doctorate and master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering from the Arizona State University, USA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Tsinghua University, P.R. China. His research interests include Production Planning & Scheduling, Operations Management and Stochastic Optimization/Simulation Optimization. He has authored various papers in prestigious international journals.

Paolo Balinas is Senior Channel Manager skilled in Channel Management, Sales, Sales Operations & Management, Marketing, and Business Planning. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Asian Institute of Management Master of Business Administration (MBA) Business Administration and Management, General and a Bachelor of Science (BS) Management of Financial Institutions (MFI) degree from De La Salle University Manila.

Papers reporting original and unpublished research results and experience are solicited. Guidelines for abstract submission follow.

Abstract Submission

The abstract should be typed in English, should not include mathematical notations, and must contain the following:

• Paper/proposal title;
• Abstract of not more than 200 words;
• Author(s) name(s), organization, full mailing address, email address, with an indication of author(s) presenting the paper; and
• Topic (at most three, chosen from the Conference Topics List) under which paper falls and additional topics if not included in the list.
